How to use the Telephone Interpreter Service

The Translating and Interpreting Service (TIS National) provides free interpreting services to non-English speaking Australian citizens and permanent residents communicating with approved groups and individuals on behalf of the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. Non English Speaking clients can use the Telephone Interpreter Service to contact SWCT when no bi-lingual workers are available.

To use the Telephone Interpreting Service (TIS) please follow these steps:

1. Dial 131 450

2. Say the language of the interpreter you require when prompted. An automated voice will repeat the language back, confirm if the language repeated back is correct by saying “Yes” or “No”

3. You will be then be asked to enter your Voice Access Code. When prompted please ask your interpreter to contact SWCT on 9426 8999 and we will provide the Telephone Interpreter Service with our Access Code and an available staff member to discuss your enquiry.
